Pantanal Sounds: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Music and Sound Ecology

Pantanal Sounds: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Music and Sound Ecology

Speaker: William Teixeira

Location: online via Zoom

Speaker’s Note:
The Pantanal is the largest wetland in Brazil and faces numerous threats to its biodiversity driven by economic and ideological forces. However, the richness and importance of this ecosystem remain unknown to many people concerned with contemporary ecological issues. In this talk, I aim to introduce the audience to this ecological context, presenting how the Pantanal Sounds project explores ways to engage the arts—especially music—in advocating for preservation and protection. This includes artistic research based on sound collections and new musical compositions. Finally, I hope to open a dialogue with participants to share new perspectives for interdisciplinary collaborations exploring the relationship between music and sound ecology.
